If you believe all the claims that cameras make these days, then every
picture you take should be a great one. The automated features of
cameras these day such as winding the film after the photo is shot, DX
coding sets the film speed, auto exposure, auto focus should ensure
every photo is a winner. Yet so many people are disappointed by the
prints they get back from the processors.
The primary reason for this is that good photography
has very little to with the type of camera you use. It's just as
easy to take a bad picture with an excellent high end camera as it is to
take a good picture with a basic piece of equipment.
Taking good photographs means recognizing and making
the most of your subject. First you must really look at your subject
before pressing the shutter. For example are there things in the
image that would be better cropped out of included in the photograph (i.e.
light poles growing out of peoples heads). Is the subject squinting
because they are looking into the sun. You could move them to some dappled
shade to improve the composition. Knowing how you equipment reacts
in certain situations is a must in good photography.
These are the reasons that photography is such a
good hobby. You can begin with the simplest of equipment and learn to take
great photographs.
